Most waters today have banned the 'bolt rig' method feeder. The inline method feeder acts exactly the same as a ledger, the difference being that you mould groundbait around the feeder which encourages fish to come and feed from it. If you use a short hooklength (I use a 3" one) it lies next to your feeder and you will soon see your rod tip fly round when one of the feeding fish decide to take your bait and run for it!
Go onto your ISP home page and type in method feeder, you should get an assortment of sites with pictures.

Most Waters?

Would that be most carp puddles?

I'm not aware of any waters over my way where it's banned.

I would say though that the method feeder works in a completely different way to the previous method that Robert has been asking about, i.e. a light running leger.

With a running leger you should be trying to hit bites whereas with a method feeder it's more a case of grab the rod before it disappears.

Most of the places near me apart from the big waters have the bolt rig banned! I.E you cannot move the feeder up and down the line freely.
Makes alot of sense though!

I'm with Matthew - I can understand why unsafe bolt rigs should be banned - tether rigs, I believe. But why ban method feeders or bolt rigs that are safe(*)? Furthermore, how are such rules policed?

(*) Is it because it's so easy?!! Even I caught a carp on a method rig last week - so it must make fishing easy... but is that any reason to ban it? They'll be after those pesky hooks next!

I would like to see a method bolt rig that is proven safe! In answer to the other question "carp puddles" as you call them are all I can fish as I cannot walk along the river bank. By the way the "carp puddles" I fish, I can target Tench, Bream, Roach, Rudd, Perch and other species!

So when using a inline method feeder you thread the line through the feeder and tie it on to a hooklength ?

What is used to stop the feeder touching the swivel ?

This may sound stupid but what way up should the inline method feeder be .

I have a fox one .

Also can anyone reccommend a good groundbait mix to put around the feeder .

Thank you .
