What on earth do you a size 22 hook for? How do you tie it?

I had major problems just picking it up

I use them for tying flies, Elton.
Indeed....#18 scudd( a bit larger then a 22..but still quite small), is a killer carp fly on Lake Michigan.
I have used flies as small as 24 for certain applications, such as midge or blackfly hatch.

I've had Chub to 5.9 on a 22,it was my first 5 in fact and I was deliberately fishing for them with freelined maggots, wouldn't want to tie one by hand but a hook tier copes OK.

Sometimes, particularly in very clear water, you can see roach, perch etc gobbling down free offerings, leaving your hook bait to drift down untouched.

Just the weight of the hook, dragging it down slightly faster gives the game away.

Especially when match fishing, it's time to go down to as small a hook, and as fine a hooklength as you can get away with.

Surprisingly large fish can be landed on a 22 (or even a 24!)
