Rumours are rife locally of DEFRA bringing more fishermen to court. A couple of people have now told me a story of 2 Yorkshire fishermen who have recently been brought to court and heavily fined for
only 1 offence each.

Has anybody got anymore details on this????

I think they got fined £5000 each and that is only for one offence each looks like the hammer is down they mean buisness, the was for not logging in before they landed but the fish did vanish before being checked.

What do you think of recent DEFRA prosecutions steve???. I here on the grapevine that many fishermen are getting concerned. You can never rely on gossip (but the last lot I heared proved right) but it's been said that some are contemplating selling up as they see no way of making a living inside the law which is now being enforced.

Is the law really being enforced? Or are these few recent convictions just a token gesture? Those prosecuted recently are just a drop in the ocean and represent only a tiny percentage of those actually breaking the rules.

I know that there would be many fishermen selling up if the accountability thing ever comes in and if it is ever enforced, but there are those that believe it won't ever happen.

Hi Steve,

I think the non-believers are in for a bit of a shock, the ball is rolling on both sides of the Channel.
