I'm thinking about getting a new match rod, I've only ever had cheaper models in the past but fancy getting something better.

It has to be very light and slim. I fancy the Drennan rods a bit, has anybody used them? What are thy like? If I broke a section would it be easy to get a new section?

I mainly catch Roach,Dace and Perch with the odd Tench and chub.

very light - very slim - very good looking - IM8 carbon...gorgeous reel seat and pretty short handle so they are very maneuverable

I have a Drennan DRX 15' that I love to bits. I also have a Ron Thompson 13' match rod for £15.00. Apart from 2' I'm not so sure what the extra £100.00 plus actually gave me!!

The tip of my Drennan was broken, surprisingly easily. It was replaced for £30.00, very promptly. Drennan's service is always good.

It all depends on how much cash you want to part with.
I use Map parabolix matchtec (fish from 1oz to 6lb+) and carptec (fish from 2lb to 8lb+)waggler rods which are a total dream to use.
Trouble is they had a rrp of 300.00 but you can now pick them up for about 200.00 or 130+ for a 2nd hand model.
A very good alternative would be one of the preston innovation carbonactive range.

One very good tip is to go for the year before lasts model as you can usuually pick them up at over half the original price.

Thanks everyone,
Theres so many to choose from,
Abu Conolon 14' £110.04
Abu Suveron 13' (2004 Model) £133.36
Drennan DRX 15' £136
Drennan Logic Match 16' £144
Shakespeare Albany 14' £94.75
Daiwa Matchwinner 13' £117.99

About £150 is the max I will spend but if I spend this much I really want to know I can get replacement tip sections.

I've been lucky enough to recently get my hands on a Preston Carbonactive 13', and I'm very impressed. I don't think you'd have any problem getting replacement sections IF one was to break.

I read somewhere that the Preston rod was not really suited to river fishing. I think it might have been something to do with the rings or maybe the action.

Thanks
