Came across this whilst nibbling some lunch, anyone given it a try, can't see why it wouldn't work with those fluorescent emergency lights which you crack to make them light up, my kids have some bracelets which do the same thing.

Would it work pier/shore fishing at night?

It's a long scroll down to see what they are on about, good video clips.

I must admit that I find their claims a bit incredible.
You need a lot of light to attract fish as it does not propagate through water as well as it does through air.
I have watched night divers out in the bay and their very powerful submersible torches are barely visible when they are submerged.
A petrol lamp lowered down the wall so that it is close to the water will attract pollack.
An array of flourescent tubes and a small generator would be a lot more effective but difficult to lug about smile.gif

I could see this going down a storm on my local carp lakes and I bet the salmon Bailiffs would love it as well.

Just another way of relieving you of hard earned cash. Lights on the surface bring up any number of fish but they are not always the fish that you want to see and they dont always feed.
A few years ago on a 36 hour conger trip on Terry Lee's boat out of Newhaven, we ran out of bait. Mackerel hadn't been exactly playing the game and we were down to strip baits. The deck lights were on and we noticed that scad and the occasional squid had turned up to see what was going on. In spite of having squid jigs and feathers in the water for an hour or two, the total number of baits caught amounted to two scad and they looked like they were foulhooked.

Lights on deep lures are hit and miss. If your lures catch its too easy to say that the light did the trick. personally me and my usual crew saw absolutely no difference. In Kenya we fished after dark on the North Kenya Bank for swordfish using whole squid with 6 inch lights buried inside. they seemed to work, but later in the week when we forgot to pack the lights on the boat, we still caught on bare squid.

Pollack, squid and cuttlefish are attracted by the harbour lights around here and they do feed.
The local Portugese jig for squid under the harbour lights. If you turned up with a powerful lighting array you would have to beat them off with a stick as they would all be casting under your lights sad.gif
We often see garfish cruising around under the lights but they are seldom caught. Either they are not feeding or they are feeding on small things that we cannot see in the water from the top of the harbour wall.

A quick search with 'light commercial squid jigging' will throw up plenty of references to the use of light by squid boats to attract and concentrate the fish around the boat.
Unfortunately we are talking about 1000+ W metal halide lamps, a bit much for a car battery

Lets face it, if shining a light on the water was a winner we'd all be doing it. Promenade lights and pier lights no doubt attract the odd curious specimen into the area but lights dont appear to attract the swarms of hungry fish that some would claim.
