Hello All..

A slight bit of lazyness here I guess as I'm sure I might be able to find out the info I'm after by trawling through the hundreds of centrepin threads on here from the last few years.

But.

I've just bought an old Match Aerial off everyones favourite gambling site. It was poorly titled/listed with poor photos and therefore attracted little interest so I took a punt figuring that with a little tinkering I could get it up to speed. Wrong!.

I won the auction at a good price but you get what you pay for and the pin is a bit of a wreck. It dosn't spin very freely, has a bad wobble, bent spokes and is covered in sand. The last bit is a little iffy, it looks like, judging by a small knot of 60lb's+ mono to have been used as sea reel. None too sharp.

I don't think the reel is beyond repair but it is by my hands. So does anyone know of the names or contacts of good centrepin repairers, bearing in mind it might have to be a independent manufacturer due to the replacement of parts..

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully there might be someone close'ish to the Eastern Counties so I can take the thing along and get an estimate.

Thanks in adavance..

Dan T.

Do any of you pin buffs know what age the reel might be?...

More Pics.

I'd guess the age at around the 60s Dan.

I think your right about the sea fishing, it's a right mess! Is that a split in the backplate? It looks like there's filler to the left of the 'bodge up' on the reel fitting.
I wouldn't like to put a price on a repair, (might be more than a new one).

If Jiquota see's this thread, he will be more help than I am.

John.

You posted more pics, while I was writing. The serial No will tell you the age if you want to find out. The ratchet knob is different to mine, and I bought mine in '68.

It does look like it's been in a few wars !! Deffo been abused. I think it needs a new foot fitting and a good cleaning up by a professional . I may well be wrong but it does look like it can be rescued !

Could send pictures and get a quote from Gary Mills at the following link but looks as if quite a few parts need replacing plus a jig re-build.

Thanks for your promt reply Gozzer..It is a bit of a mess. Theres no split or filler, thats probably my dodgy photography but the reel foot is a reel bodge job. It's got a real wobble too and only spins for around 10 seconds or so.The serial number is 365019 if thats an indicator of age..

Excellent. Cheers Chris and Tinca..

I'll give Mr Mills a look.Would a dodgy jig be the reasoning behind the wobble?

You're right Tigger it does. I'm guessing here but I have an inkling that the reel may of been used off a pier due to the scratching along the back.

I'm hoping it's not beyond repair and I shall treat it as a restoration project if it's not totally gone..

W0W ,and i thought the one i got of e-bay was in a sorry state ,but i've seen worse (and bidded on them) garry mills will sort it out so it spins better as he's a wizard with whirligigs ,and should be able to sort out that reel foots screws (personally i'd leave it how it was ,battle scar's and all ) .don't worry too much about a bit of wobble ( it adds character ,and we all wobble sometimes ).
