Where does the term "Field Testing" come from?

And why is it applied to angling products?

We dont fish in fields but some fish from them!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the term comes from the Military testing out stuff in the field where they are designed to be used.

You might find this of interest-
These days "Feild testing" for many bait companies er should really say boillie companys is nothing more than a marketing scam!

Many ,many bait "feild testers" actually buy their bait from the makers (many not even at discounted prices!) and get given a tee shirt and the title "feild tester" for their trouble! These baits arnt being tested as such merely the first runs of their manufacture.

For the bait firms this gives a two fold acvantage, firstly it garantees sales of their new product and secondly helps ensure a few pictures in the press and therefore free publicity! All clever stuff as they are taking advantage of the guys who want the ego trip! SUCKERS!

As for equipment testing well some do it and others obviously dont as their products prove.

If a couple of you want to field test my coarse fishing disgorgers just email me. You won't get paid, just a free disgorger smile.gif

Budgie, 4 mates of mine were fishing Lac Du Dare(sp)a few years ago when 4 genuine field testers arrived (they owned the boilie firm), these four waited a week for my mates to leave. During this time the testers asked to buy the lads boat as they did not realise they needed to row there baits out. As the lads where moving onto another water they declined the offer. The testers had a boat flown in as they could not find one for sale in the area.
The result of 6 weeks field testing there boilies was several under 20lb and one of 40+, the picture of which went into the "angling press".
I think that works out to 4032 hours, even I could catch a 40+ given that amount of time and tons of boilies smile.gif

Sure thing Dave, I will get one in the post on Monday. To give you some idea of the reaction to the sea fishing ones take a look at the topic disgorgers by underwater some thing or other smile.gif

Here's an offer for ya.
Totally up to you but say no if ya want.

The funds will be going to Cancer Reseach UK.

My offer and yours(if you want that is)is for me to buy a set of disgorgers from you but only pay you half, the rest I'll put as a donation on your behalf.

OK Dave, how about this, a set of disgorgers (sea and Coarse) is £14 so send a cheque for £7 and I will chuck in 2 free coarse ones for any disabled angler that can use them. Alan Stubs had a problem with his hand/wrist so was disabled for a while, the disgorger helped him.
I will also include a free sea one for Captainhook to either try out or give away.

If you don't fancy the deal then the original offer for you to field test the coarse one holds, the jiffy bag has your address on it.

Sorry I can't sponsor you, but to be honest I am skint for a while sad.gif

I still do Alan, and am waiting another bit of surgery to open my right hand a bit further. The palm of my hand has got more lines than the contours on an Ordnance Survey map.

My travails are nothing compared to yours though mate, and I wish you everything you'd wish yourself ...

And, by the way, the disgorgers were great... I've misplaced them but will mail you the cash for replacements.... they work better than any other I've tried - even forceps!

Alan.
