It's possibly a blessing in disguise that I've lost my little Reuben-Heaton spring-balance. I always felt it only gave a rough estimate of the weight of the fish! I'm going to buy a new weighing device, today, and wondered if anyone had any recommendations? I'm considering digital... anything really, apart from those big-dial match scales, which I haven't really got room for in my tacklebox.

Reuben Heatons are good!
But I also have a set of Salter digitals. Terrific, unless you drown them! But even when I did that Salter changed them for free! Great scales, great service. Nip into the archive, a lot of discussion on scales in there, and not so long ago. -------------------- PETER

A couple of years ago I bought a set of Salter Digital scales after reading a review. Different scales were tested at 10lb - 20lb - 30lb and 40lb. And the Salter's were the only ones spot on at each bracket. (The benefits of modern technology)
I have been very pleased with them. The only downside is that they are not cheap. Not sure what you would pay now, but at that time the rrp was just below 100.00, although no doubt you will get them cheaper now. It all depends what sort of accuracy you want. As I weigh my fish and keep accurate records I needed something that is 100% reliable. There is a review on Barbel Fishing World done by Bob Gill of these scales. -------------------- Check out my weekly Angling Journal at.....Stewart Bloor's Angling Journal

Never got on with digital scales my self,Always found them difficult to get a good reading on as they are so sensitive.Used 32lb and then 40lb Avons for many years always been happy with them. Looked after they stay acurate for many years,For my big fish I use a set of 350lb Salters the accuracey of these seems to vary at different weight bands, but for treble figure fish I am happy to the nearest pound so it dont really matter.
Never owned a set myself but all of my big carp (40lb+) have been weighed on borrowed Nash (120lb?) scales.Never had any reason to doubt them. |
