Pair Team HAMMER Sport Fish
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For any conservation mongers out there get off the anglers case and get onto the backs of the fisheries management of this country who, despite promoting the sporting benefits of the bass and tope fishing around Flamborough are allowing a very powerful pair team to tow non stop in this area.
I do not know what they are catching at the moment but for the hours they are putting in it will be significant.
In no way do I blame the fisherman it is the rules that need changing to protect this and other sensitive areas from total destruction.
If these boats were targeting sandeel or sprats then the twichers would have them stopped before you could tie a blood knot! as the grounds are supposed to be vital to the birds.
How they managed to weave among the fleets of pots yesterday I do not know but the risks taken must be reaping big rewards. It is indeed a shame because the other day I was relishing the return of plaice fishing to this very area.

(not April 1st issit?)

They should be so lucky!!!

Off Portland, the beamers plough straight through static gear at night without a thought for the inshore fishermen.

Powerful pair trawlers?
Pair trawlers weaving in and out among crab pots?
Not sure what there catching?

So how close do you think these pair trawlers where to the land then Clem?
Did you recognise them as local trawlers?
Information much appreciated.
Regards.

After years of catching cod commercially I can think of a lot of words to describe catching fish with a rod and line; “consistent” is not one of them.

I thought you would be already on the case there John. It is the same team thats been working there the last year on and off from Scarborough working on off parts of land rock and hauling just south of Smethik bouy. I know they were weaving we saw them come together a couple of times to come inside of fleets. I do not suggest they are breaking any rules it is the hypocrisy of the whole thing that gets me while trying to promote and develop a fishery with one hand and destroying it with another.
Regards, Clem.

Ask them nicely and they might just share a bit out, they only have 97% though. wink.gif

However, according to the current advise, ices are saying that the cod recovery has only happend in the north sea area to a limited amount and the eu are looking at alternative methods to improve on this.

Walking across the channel on the backs of cod, who is right?

Hello Barry

The EU and the fishery management industry will milk cod for as long as possible. I wonder if they would be so keen if some other country had the lions share of the North sea cod quota.

ICES have always been miles out on their cod stock assessments now they are just being ridicules.

It looks like we are in for some more artic weather next week, I was told today that sea temperature has dropped by up to 3 degrees in the last 3 weeks in this area, just what the cod need for another good year class.
