Can some one correct me but arn't they a charity as well as the RNLI. Good job he didn't say cheques written out to Mr wise. I don't wish to re-read what the eu auditors said as it would only be a repeat in any event. But I thought the mission was for Uncle Albert types, but the RNLI saves lives. And we already pay taxes to look after our old. Taxes to look after the old. You will never pay enough taxes for that. Taxes for jobs and blue chip pensions are the most important and first in line. The elderly are looked after subject on how much the government and the local authorities wish to release. When money is tight what suffers first, you got it, the sick and the elderly, never the pension jobs first, you hear these blue rinse guys all the time, 'we are going to have to cut services'. Whats up with the likes of uncle albert going to a misson for lunch,or to get his head down, must be better than the government and the press boasting about soup kitchens opening for the homeless at christmas time, normaly it's yet another charity that does it. If the money was to start to run out for the RNLI, they could go to the government for funding. It won't and they don't want to. -------------------- Live ones, not dead ones. |

Are there many old commercial fisherman at the mission? or is it mainly merchant seamen? -------------------- Now a X BASS, NFSA & SACN Member.

But I thought the mission was for Uncle Albert types, but the RNLI saves lives. And we already pay taxes to look after our old. You have obviously never been to a seaman’s mission for a visit or spent time at one when you have been away from home and needed a place of refuge. Seaman’s missions are active all over the world and have been of fantastic support to fishermen and sea mariners alike for as long as there has been a need. Like the RNLI there is next to no funding yet missions are the first to come up with finical help if it is needed in times of tragedy. Some uncle Albert’s of the world may go down for a cup of tea and a maritime chat but the seaman’s mission is and has always been a god blessing for those of us who spent a long time away from home and visited many different ports. -------------------- After years of catching cod commercially I can think of a lot of words to describe catching fish with a rod and line; “consistent” is not one of them.

Some uncle Albert’s of the world may go down for a cup of tea and a maritime chat but the seaman’s mission is and has always been a god blessing for those of us who spent a long time away from home and visited many different ports. I've many good memories of the Flying Angel and Stella Maris seamans missions in ports around the world. The one in Newcastle provided a bed when I got back to the ship after a night out and the ship wasn't there! I left a befriended dog with the one in Cardiff when the captain wouldn't sail for South America with it aboard (but I did bring back a canary or 'mule' from there). I lost the sole of my shoe when dancing with a senorita at the one in Buenos Aires. I almost gave up drink when the world's largest centipede glided across the floor of the bar of the one in Mombasa. The one in Melbourne bailed me out of jail. But it's the Fishermen's Mission that Tom Wise is asking money for. The Fishermens Mission is a very worthy cause, one job they do is help and support fishermans families that have been loss at sea, they should be respected for that, in anyones book.
They might visit my family oneday, I hope not Uncle Albert types, thats just so tacky, maywe maywe I would not expect much else on ear. LOL LOL Steve This post has been edited by steve good: Apr 21 2008, 07:37 AM |
