I have a crappy old desktop PC that sits in the garage sulking most of the time, it has 512mb of PC2700 RAM, I can get 1gb of PC2100 RAM pretty cheap, does anyone know of any possible pitfalls using this older, slower RAM?

it runs a bit slower but in a old pc like that your not going to notice it ,it may even balance out with the extra memory,peruse the manual though to see if it can handle 1gig in one slot a lot of elderly ones were very particular what when where ,some demanded two slots for big chips so you needed 4 slots to install 2 chips etc.
probably best not to install vista though

Cheers for that Chesters, pretty much what I thought, no problems with the size of the dimms, it's 2 x 512

Jeepster, I'm not sure but I would have thought 1Gb of 2100 has got to be better than 512Mb of 2700.
