i always found that either a paternoster rig, or the loop method worked for me in my match fishing days.
It all really depends on what sort of fish and waters you are on !! little bit more info should lead you in the right direction with answers -------------------- www.stoneyandfriends.co.uk

I used to use the loop method but stopped as it can become a tether rig if it breaks above the loop. I now usually use a simple running rig, with an anti-tangle sleeve if tangles prove to be a problem. The rig looks like this:
hook--hooklength---swivel--stop-bead--feeder--mainline---- With the feeder on either just a clip swivel or a swivel on a length of silicone tube as an anti-tangle rig. I'll sometimes use a paternoster, but with a light link to the feeder to prevent it becoming a tether rig. HTH Will |

Sorry to say, there are very few totally tangle free rigs, that are not teather rigs in the wrong circumstances.
The fixed paternoster is definately a "no, no", if the mainline cuts on a snag. The loops method ditto, fish having no way of ditching the rig, and so drags it round till it hangs up someplace and teathers the fish. The only running rig that I know of that rarely tangles is the running paternoster. Basically this is a leger tied to a short link of nylon with a swivel at the other end. This runs on your mainline. The mainline runs down through a tulip bead, which in turn is pushed over the hooklink swivel. Your running paternoster swivel has to be large enough to slide over the "stem" of the tulip, to act the same as the fixed paternoster. That is till the line breaks, and then the whole thing can then fall appart. As an additional aid to de-tangling the rig you can slip a piece of 4" long silicone tube over the hooklink swivel eye. When the lead hangs down, suspended on the tulip bead, the silcone tube stands out to the side of the link, just like a fixed paternoster, but without the danger. Whew, that was complicated to explain! Hope you all got it, there will be a test later. BOF |
