Hmmm!

I think I'll start saving my pennies for one of these.

Some considerable time ago in a VERY early edition of Carpworld ... so old that the pix were mostly black and white - a angler and a scientist friend were experimenting with the same idea.

To cut a long story short the optimum wavelength for the radiowaves was something like 44.8mhz to bring the fish into the swim and keep them there.

At the time it was too expensive and nigh on impossible to size down to a usable size the transmitter involved

But nowadays ... that's something entirely different.

I seem to remember something similar being researched at Plymouth Univ a few years ago.....lets see... ah here it is...

FISH TRAINED TO SWIM INTO NETS
Fish farmers are training fish to swim towards sounds in the same way that sheepdogs respond to a farmer’s whistle. The idea is to release the fish into the sea to grow naturally, and then call them back into the fishing net when they have grown big enough to eat. The new invention should make fishing more profitable, and importantly, more environmentally friendly. The idea has been developed by Jonathan Lovell from the Institute of Marine Studies at Plymouth University, who was a fisherman until 4 years ago when he became a researcher. Mr. Lovell has been testing his ideas on Carp, Mullet and sea bass in a tank, equipped with a loudspeaker, at the institute. The fish are ‘conditioned’ to come when they are called by playing a sound through the speaker and at the same time they are given a small food reward. After a few trials the fish come to the sounds alone without being fed and remember their call sign for at least 4 months. As the fish can distinguish different sounds, it is possible to train fish of different ages to come to different sounds.
