Hello all,

I'm a first time poster to this site and from across the pond.
I was wondering if the reel is supposed to spin as I release the loops of line from my fingers on the Nottingham or Loop Cast. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi Randy, you are amongst many 'pin users here.
I think that the answer is no, but I might just be wrong. Being a bit of a phillistine I cast that way, Wallace casts are for the show-offs amongst us! Mind you, a bit of spin might give you a few extra yards. I've buggered my arm so I can't go out and try right now.

Welcome Randy. North Carolina fella, I am. And while I don't use 'pins, there are certainly quite a few on here who do. In fact, one regular even has a link somewhere to a great piece of video he made to illustrate the Walis/Wallis/Wallace/whatever cast.

Are you wanting to add more to This thread?

At any rate, one of the pin guys will certainly be posting an answer here soon.

Snap - That Waller guy posted while I was composing. biggrin.gif

Thanks for the replys. I'll give you a little background about myself. I'm an addicted pinner who loves to trot the tributaries of the Great Lakes for steelhead, salmon, and trout. I also like to drift floats for other species of fish like shiners, chubs (creek chubs) bass, catfish and any thing else that'll hit a bait presented under a float.

Recently I did a demonstration on the Loop cast and the wallis cast for the Questoutdoors web site. While I seldom use the loop cast (just hasn't caught on in North America) I did the demonstration to the best of my knowledge and I just couldn't remember the correct way. I did the cast the best way I knew how which was grabbing the loops of line from the rod rings and the letting her fly. So, to make a long story short, I was just wondering about the correct way to do it.

Oh yeah, thanks for the warm welcome.

Randy

Atlast, a civilised American! One who uses a centre-pin for fishing and not as a book-end !

Yes, pins are made for fishing. If they were meant to be paper weights that's what they would have been called in the first place. Right?
