I'm hoping for a day on the Royalty next week ( Tuesday ), having never had the pleasure before, anyone got any pointers ?
With the cold weather, I'm planning on seeking some chub and pike.
Any advice appreciated.

I don't fish the Royalty but I've been getting quite a few chub recently from not too much further upstream on flake fished behind a cage feeder of liquidised bread.

Edit: I forgot to say earlier that I've had quite a lot of fish from the Avon this winter from much shallower swims than I would normally fish, probably a maximum of 3'0" whereas the average depth where I've been fishing would be nearer 7'0".

Local reports suggest rolling meat, is working for the barbel.
I've never tried this but have read some accounts by the man himself - Ray Walton.
Anyone fished here ?
Anyone tried rolling meat ?

Yes and Yes!! Had a whole 2 days on the Royalty in Feb 01 We had the Compound and thrashed the place for two solid days without success. A total of over 20 hours angling without a bite. Still conditions were hardly in our favour. The river was in flood and the weather was cold and very bright with a raw easterly wind. We saw 1 barbel (to rolling meat) and one pike caught the entire weekend. Would love to go back in more clement conditions.....
