Analysts at the Freshwater Biological Association based by Lake Windermere have just stated that the temperature of the water in Lake Windermere has risen sharply and is putting fish at risk.

A daily temperature reading has been taken for the past 70 years or so.

Since 1980, the average temperature has risen by 9 degrees centegrade. Summer temperatures are now regularly higher than 20 degrees and 6 degrees in the winter.

Species under threat include artic charr, salmon, and the rare fish species which inhabit it.

Windermere, England's largest lake, is around 13 miles in length and up to 64 metres deep.

Global warming is blamed and similar temperature rises are predicted for other Lakeland waters.

It would be interesting to know if anyone else has studied rising water temperatures in waters they fish and any effect on the fish and fishing.

Brian

This is starting to prove both interesting and useful:

Thanks Leon,

Interesting that the date for temperatures permanently over 10C got earlier each year, overall, except for 1999.

Strewth. Nine degrees C is an enormous rise in less than 25 years!! Catastrophic in fact, I'm sure!
