A little birdy told me today that defra have sent out appointment invitations for sea anglers to serve on the sfc's, have you heard anything? all i know is there will only be two appointed on my sfc. and i was wondering who that would be as it would be nice to liase with these from the begining, as i have a mountain of proposals to put to whoever.

Although confirmation is being sought, it seems that in almost every case, just one angler has been appointed to each Sea Fisheries Committee.

In the case of Sussex, it will be Alan Brothers (who is the NFSA Press Officer).

(I'm on Kent & Essex)

Appointments of the new people start on 1st July.

ok cheers leon, this must be because that the sfc's will only permit one sea angler rep for each area and are still pulling the strings rather than defra, because i think there was more than ten or so nominated from here. are you dissapointed with this outcome as much as me?

Something funny has gone on with those nominations and appointments. We were led to believe that we would have two RSA reps on each committee, and maybe three on the bigger ones. We now find that we have only one on the majority of SFC's, and without showing any disrespect to any of the chosen few, the best men for the job were not chosen in some cases.

I have to ask is this the shape of things to come? We've had all the promises and now we want to see some action. I've always said that I'd believe the words when I see some actions, and I'm afraid they have fallen at the very first fence as far as I'm concerned.

By the way, I was chosen to represent us on the Eastern Sea Fisheries Joint Committee!

Yes, I would Dan but I only have about another 30 or so years left in me. It would take a lot longer than that for them to explain what's been going on!

Stavey you have email.

Anyone unhappy at the level of representation of Recreational Sea Angling on SFCs should be writing to their MP, the fisheries minister and the Prime Minister etc.

Don't just leave it to others to get a result.

And remember that the SFCs are financed by your county council who appoint a number of councillors to the SFC and who should be representing your interests.

You should be letting them know how valuable RSA is to the local economy and make sure that they are earning their expenses from your council rates in supporting your views on things like enforcement, conservation and the development of recreational sea angling etc.
