Thoughts are with all of you living in the North (and N Ireland) especially those on the coast. These are times when one seriously rethinks ones dreams of a cottage on the shore in the NW Scotland or islands!!! Hope you are all safe.

It blowing hard up on the Caithness coast just now and due to get worse by morning. Fairly used to it though and most houses built with the wind in mind.

Tugmistress and family will be getting a fair blast just now.

Its worst I can remember in years - its a constant howling outside. Listening to UVHF Scanner and Emergency Services talking - structural damage everywhere, roads blocked, ambulances not getting to people .... the list goes on.

Tomorrow not supposed to be much better, going to be scarey to see what damage there is all over the place.

Just had a look at that site...

It's 03:20 and the wind is really going for it out there, (I'm just over the hill from the Forth bridges), can't see me getting out fishing for a while now...

As posted on non fishing chat at 0303.
Scapa Flow.
Wind SSW Mean speed 61 Kts
Gust of 81.2 kts (92.5 MPH)
Glass 965MB

The wind has dropped a wee bit now.
The strongest I've seen here is 105 Kts(120 MPH) in January 1999.
Mind you we've had 83 kts in mid June!!
Cheers
Scapa
