Lad in our fishing club swears he cooks his black lug in the microwave before using them and insists they are far better used this way. I personally think he is as daft as he looks and am not so keen to try it.

Another person who is definately as daft as he looks biggrin.gif tongue.gif is me old mate big cod. He says they definately work better when microwaved and has actually worked out an exact amount of time to get them to fish at thier best. I think he bases this on a 850 watt microwave.

Im always open to something new as ive learnt quite a lot about bait by adopting the philosophy dont knock it till youve tried it.
Has anybody else ever tried this?? or are they taking the proverbial out of me - Yet again???

Never tried it and it sounds like a windup to me! I dont fancy cleaning out the microwave after exploding lug

Sounds like sea fishing is going the same way as carp fishing. Once you could catch carp on bread or boiled potatoes, now you need aniseed/rasberry flavoured boilies on a pop-up. Tell me when you can't catch fish on good old juicy lug....

Ive seen some very wiered things in the past couple of years. I remember being outfished on several occasions to baits that are not even found in the sea (I wont say what they are as im told the stocks would diminish quickly should anglers suddenly start using them). Ive seen some of this coasts top anglers use things you would never dream of. So I am now always of an open mind.

I stop at boiling lugworms. Chap I spoke to at port dock one day was telling me how he always boils his lugworm. In the next breath he complained he hadn't caught a fish for some time. I realise a lot of folk won't beleive that but if youve been to port mulgrave you will understand that abnormality is the norm.

With regard to microwaved gulleys I do actually believe they have done it.

There were other factors that day. were you watching what he did????

Everybody on the peir that day moved, yourself included because you could not hold the bottom in the very strong westerly wind. That one man used a double grip lead and light line and could clearly cast better than all of us. His lead held the bottom and yes he caught 3 codling 1 after the other.

I also rember that very day. When all our club members left the peir and headed for shelter I stayed and fished 5 yards out, down the side of the peir into the harbour. The date was Sun 20th dec 1999. we fished 2-7pm in a very big north west swell. I finished 2nd with 5 fish for 16 pound and won the prize for the heaviest fish taken on squid on its own.

He was the only person holding the bottom.I have it written in my diary, I write everything down I experience while fishing. Ive just read my diary now. I could even tell you what time I had each bite, the first of which was 10 mins after you all walked off the pier declaring it unfishable.

Your friend from Loftus came on the pier shortly after you left and caught 6 fish for 18 pound and won the match. The cheeky sod even took the lid off me bait box to see what I was catching the fish on.
