A private boat at a marina near me was seen after comming into port with over 20 thornies layed across the decks. The owner of the boat had left the fish whole so trophy photoes could be taken. Some of the fish were as small as 3lb but most fish were large females that were getting ready to sporn.
My point is how many thorn back rays does one man want, a couple of weeks ago my mate and I caught 13 thornies, 11 were returned alive we kept 2 for the pot.
If we are trying to promote recrational sports fishing then I feel that scenes like this must stop.
There is a faily good thorn back ray fishery hear in the Thames Estuary now, but it wasnt that long ago that they were thin on the ground and if this carries on it will be sooner rather thjan later.
We anglers are not commercial fisherman and for one man to catch and kill more than 20 thornies is out of order.

Agreed!

There is a place for bag limits if we want to catch decent fish (and plenty of them) in the future, but that doesn't mean having to release fish just for them to die in someone else's nets.

We need a whole package of conservation measures, not just for comercial fishermen, but for recreational anglers too.

I wouldnt keep a thornie at all... they are slow growing fish and a nice species to be able to catch... They dont taste anywhere near as good as cod, bass etc so i dont see the point!
