A message for wicker dave and others who have fished these pools recently.

Ive managed to blag a sunday am session and will be heading in that direction on sunday am.

What are the best baits at the mo? Luncheon Meat, Corn, Others?

We were thinking of Malcolm Pool, is this the best pool for all round action?

Im expecting to fish the wag fyi.

Cheers

Chris

Chris,

I usually use luncheonmeat floatfished on the bottom and crust on the surface. There was a recent phase where prawns were popular and before that cockles, so they are worth a try (haven't tried them myself). Cat/dog food was good but is now banned, although by the number of empty tins in the dustbins that rule is not adhered to by others  . Spraying maggots and fishing shallow on the drop can get some decent non-carp if you are prepared to wade through the smaller fish.

All three pools are good. I usually fish the emptiest one, although the middle one (Malcolm) is my favourite. If it is not busy don't overlook the furthest, smallest pool, there are some good carp to 19lb in there amongst a lot of smaller fish.

If you haven't seen it before, see http://www.fisheries.co.uk/peatlingpools/index.htm

Have another good one, and beat Sheepy this time smile.gif .

Dave.

How do the carp respond to mixers on the surface? Had good succes freelineing them at New Mills so was going to try it again :-) Failing that floatfished sweetcorn was going to be my backup.

Sheepy,

If the ducks and geese let you throw in a few loose pieces of crust (3 or 4 pieces little and often is best rather than a lot in one go), then the carp seem to respond better to bread than to mixers there, for me at least.

I don't think mixers are officially banned, Malcolm (now deceased), the present owners father, used to get stroppy if he saw people using unsoaked mixers. I don't think this transferred to his son, who's banned just about everything else rolleyes.gif .

Dave.

Had a good morning at Peatling yesterday taking carp off the surface using freelined mixers (all soaked) biggest was about 11lb but most were about 8 or 9 smile.gif Took them from both Malcom and Magna pool. I was a bit disapointed with Peatling pool and didnt see a thing moving there at all  Chris fished on the bottom in Malcolm pool and hooked into something nice and big that took him for a good long walk then let go of the hook sad.gif
All in all a very nice venue. We will be back smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

My bloody luck!!

i persevered, i wanted that barbel

as the lads were off surface fishing for visible carp (its cheeting i tell ya! ) i was after something a bit different.

after a few hours, some lovely roach (i could catch them all day, they dont half pull back for a small fish) and a king sized pasty common i hooked into something that was both a) large and cool.gif not a carp. my heavy float rod was bent double, and my 6lb line could have been used to tune a guitar, after about 10 mins playing this thing it only went and let go. sad.gif

so of my last few outings:

Whetstone Gorse - lost big carp with straigtend hook
Mill farm 1 - Big carp of surface, snapped line
Mill Farm 2 - Big carp off surface, snapped line
Peatling Pools - Big unknown fish, hookpull.

and for my next trick, i will show you how to go from a half decent fisherman, to a 2nd rate unconfident punteresque maggot drowner.

if those 4 fish had been landed, i would be having a red letter summer by know.

i may take up knitting....
