Hi All.

Re Anchors and Kayaks.

Anchors play a far bigger part in Kayak Fishing than just holding us over fish holding ground.
While on the subject, just a quick reminder to some of the newer members, NEVER anchor in fast moving tides/currents. Doing so will make the Kayak behave badly, pulling the nose down, and making the Kayak unstable and erratic, trying to retrieve an anchor in these circumstances would be very difficult, if not dangerous.

If ever your in doubt, cut a snagged Anchor free, they dont cost that much and are easily replaced.

Just my oppinion, but I think EVERY Kayak Fisherman should carry an Anchor on his/her Kayak.

Equipment failiure, Illness, Injury, fatigue, could render a person unable to paddle, this would leave you to the mercy of winds,tides/currents.

Deploying the Anchor could stop you drifting away out to sea, or towards a rough surf zone, rocks etc.

So give the humble Anchor some good thought, its a worthwhile piece of kit.

Whilst we are on the subject of Anchor's, don't anchor to close to any other yaks, I was fishing between Nifty and Simon on Saturday, foolishly a little to near Nifty, he stuck into a nice tope which headed for my anchor line. By the time I had pulled it up I could see his line wrapped once around my Parachute cord just above the chain, next thing, his 15lb line just cut straight through, bye bye anchor.
