We are going to Anglesey for a long weekend Staying at Sandy Beach, Llanfwrog. Thats top left hand side about 5 miles from Valley heading towards Church Bay.
I remember hearing years ago that the area was good for bass? Has any body any suggestions for shore/rock marks. Also we might be introducing a 13 year old to fishing. Can anybody suggest any safe marks. What is Holyhead breakwater like these days. Hope we have more success than Torridon!!! |

Sarah, if you want a day out on the boat with your family get in touch.
I can't help with shore marks as I only do boat fishing but a local forum that may be able to help is http://www.nwsa.ukf.net/ |

Sorry Alan! Hope to be there last weekend in July. My parents have had a caravan at Sandy Beach, Llanfwrog for aboyt 50 years. Not the same van I might add. My brother in law and family are going down for a couple of weeks so we're joining them. We are thinking of introducing our nephew to fishing so need somewhere we might have a chance of catching something. Much to the other half's disgust I would spend all the time fishing. Guess I will have to work on him! Any suggestions would be appreciated. I think it will depend on the weather, especially boat fishing.

Just an addition to this query. Where ever I look I hear about bait fishing in Anglesey. Does that mean that lure fishing is not very successfull or is it just that there are more bait anglers. If lures might be of use has anybody any suggestions.
Thanks |

Again I am not much help with shore but lures from the boat are just starting to work and will continue through till October. Try a popper or semi popper from the beach when it is calm early morning or dusk. The problem is finding the bait fish the bass are after and then matching your lure to that. At the moment the smelt and whitebait are showing so a lure resembling them will catch. Try working the lure along the beach or parallel to the rocks if fishing a gulley.
I think over 90% of fishing around the island is done with bait, mainly worm, crab and sandeel. I have found live eel to be the most consistant bait from the boat but there are times when the fish are switched on to something else, eg. whitebait. When this happens a lure will outfish anything else. |

I think it will depend on the weather, Sarah, a nice evening, a secluded beach, a bottle of wine and he will be begging to go fishing Seriously though, plan for short sessions for the lad to start with, most youngsters get bored easilly especially when they start fishing. Mackerel are a good easy (usually) species to start out on. We are going to Chris in the middle of August and buzzing once again. Good luck and have good holiday. Tight lines.
