After reading a thread about BBC radio program and sending an email to them here is the answer I received :
Dear Kevin, Thanks for contacting Home Planet. Our panellist made it clear that this used to be the case and it doesn't go on today. Also, the BBC isn't anti or pro any particular group, we're not allowed to be and would soon lose listeners if it were. Best wishes, Nick Patrick (producer) ----- Original Message ----- From: Kevin Judd To: home.planet@bbc.co.uk Sent: Tuesday, October 12, 2004 9:32 PM Subject: Todays programme Good evening What are you on about with regards to Herons and anglers. No angler in this country today persecutes these birds or Grebes and Kingfishers which also eat fish. These birds are part of the NATURAL wildlife that the majority of anglers enjoy on their fishing trips and accepted by anglers. Catching fish is a bonus, we are at one with our surroundings and all wildlife. Anglers will admit there is a problem with non native cormorants which should be in the sea, not or freshwater rivers, streams, lakes, ponds or other waters. These birds are doing a lot of damage to native fish stocks. These can be dealt with my obtaining a licence from DEEFRA if proving (and this is investigated) a problem to the fish stocks. Why does it seem that the BBC which is funded by the general public including almost four million anglers is always ANTI angling. If it were not for Angling clubs and bodies the majority of our waterways in this country would be in a state. Looking after these waters is in our interests. Who else would keep an eye out for pollution or tidy the banks? We do not see other water users doing their bit. Why does the BBC never broadcast to the rest of the general public the fact that anglers have to buy licences from the EA to be able to fish in the first place. This revenue gives the EA millions of pounds each year to spend on the water ways for any member of the public to enjoy. It's about time the beeb showed angling in a positive light. The majority of us anglers are licence paying, tax paying, law abiding citizens who enjoy our great hobby/sport/pastime and The sense of being at one with nature that it provides on our days out on the bank. regards Kevin Judd Please note that all business with Allport is conducted strictly upon the terms of our Standard Trading Conditions which prevail over any other contractual arrangements and a copy of which is available upon request. This communication may also contain information which is confidential and may be privileged. It is for the exclusive use of its intended recipient.
