Over the last couple of weeks there have 2 cracking halibut caught off whitby one by a private boat caught by a lady that weighed 36lb and another one which is a port record for rod and line of whitby if i am not mistaken it weighed in at exactly 50lb and was caught on saxon lady it was caught on the 9 mile grounds the one which the lady caught was caught just over 5 mile off i know that one other boat said they had a halibut on but it smashed the line so you never know they seem to be getting more in numbers lately so you never know i also spotted 2 porbegal sharks on wednesday which was well over 8ft in lenth they have also been seen in numbers allready this year .

Once again another halibut was caught again today this time aboard shy-torque it was caught on the 5 mile ground once again and it fell to a shad it weighed approx 10lb but it shows they are really there numbers never seen before whitby has to the top port in the england and wales for halibut i myself will be targetting them this week and with a bit of luck we could be even get one bigger than the 50lb one last week i have 2 guys who have booked the boat for themselves for the first week of the festival which starts tommorowthey have also been on the last 2 days and have had a whale of a time amoung the cod they have done extremly well on the shads.

Now that would be something of an achievement, to deliberately set out for and catch halibut. That would rank in my book with the guys who first tried to catch bluefin tuna off Ireland.
