I was asked by a friend the other day if i could copy some karaoke discs he had borrowed for his daughter (6) to play on her own machine.

I'm not totally up to speed on karaoke software but i believe it is in CD+G format? (cd and graphics) . Anyhoo , i tried putting the disc into a copy box i have 1 to 1 , the disc copies well enough but doesn't carry over the graphics (words) to the blank disc, just the music.

Having done a really quick surf of google last night , most of the software needed to do the above (properly) requires me putting my hand in my pocket and also the correct type of disc-drive PLEXTOR , according to google most other drives don't copy properly even with the correct software. I'm not tight by any stretch of the imagination but i don't want to be shelling out $40 for something that i will never use, seeing as i'm only trying to help the guy out for his daughter.

T'was wondering if any of you guys are familiar with the above and could point me in the right direction.

Thanks as always Mr M. smile.gif

Mr M - you are correct that CD+G is the standard format for karaoke disks. You are also correct that to get them or copy them legally will incur cost on your part, And quite a bit of technical ability. http://www.karaoke-tutor.com/backup-cdg.html
If you frequent the darker side of the web eg. P2P downloads and NZB's then all is available totally free.
When and if you download a karaoke track from the web it will come as 2 files. which you will need. There are many programs that will then play it. I use winamp as my media player as i dont get codec issues, and for winamp you can get a plug-in for karaoke which will play the music file and also decode and display the words on your PC. Karaoke collections are always available via download even uptodate ones.
