I spoke to a local farmer the other morning when I was out walking my dog. He was telling me that he'd had a Health & Safety visit and was told to remove the 'BEWARE OF THE BULL' sign that he had up and to replace it with a yellow 'BULL IN FIELD' one.

I was talking to a cray fisherman here a few days ago and he was telling me about a guy on the jetty when he came in with his day's catch. The guy started asking questions about various activities aboard the boat. How they lift things, how they move them, why they did this, why the did that etc. etc. The cray man asked him why he was asking so many questions and the guy told him that he was employed by "Work Safe", a Government body setting up safe work procedures and that he was giving a lecture to cray men on safe procedures during the next week. The guy I was talking to told me that he had been ordered to attend that lecture which would cost him a day's operations and, as it turned out, just to listen to what he had just told the Work Safe officer!

i would say that a lot of these things come from the "compensation culture" that seems to abound in Britain.
As a result, insurance premiums costs rocket, and the companies respond,by bring in daft measures to try and reduce liability. No win no fee.......started it all. |

nothing wrong with it if companies ,councils or individuals cock up they should pay ,no pain no gain.
i would fine any water company several million £ for each and every polution offence they do ,if they go out of business so be it ,i wouldnt stop there managers would be fined so much their houses ,bank accounts and cars would be seized ,they wont fooking do it again! my mrs fell on some very dangerous steps (council built ,supposedly council maintained) at first we couldn't actually find out who built them (several denials) in the end we found the correct department who promissed us they would be fixed ,3 years later they have got worse . pointless us taking them on anything we got would be seized because we live off my mrs's benefits but if someone did boy would it get them fixing them in a trice i bet as the law wont let the masses take companies or councils to court (far to expensive) then "compensation" companies do a great service to us and ofcourse to them. my daughter got hit by a panel falling off a train carriage ,luckily it was a glancing blow but it scarred her for life and without "compensation" companies getting involved the train company would have ignored her ,at first they called her a liar then witnesses turned up including the ambulance records of her being taken off the train ,they soon took notice then without "compensation" companies getting involved my daughter or i wouldnt have a clue how to proceed in punishing (albeit a very small slap on the wrist) the company and hopefully it wont happen again to another passenger compared to america we have no compensation culture ,we may get a tiny tiny fraction of compensation compared to america and if it keeps companies on their toes its good yes? if i were king for a week any company would be fined so much they would go out of business and its board bankrupt ,who cares about its employees they are doing the dirty work for the company so a public flogging all round would be nice. people make stupid rules because stupid people encourage them ,sensible rules are implemented by sensible people.the only way to stop the stupid ones is to shoot everyone involved in the neck so they fall in a ditch they dug This post has been edited by chesters1: Jun 30 2009, 05:02 PM -------------------- |
