The AN Mpnthly Photo Comp runs for the whole month, every month of the year. So when you have taken that masterpeice Photograph you will always be able to enter it into the comp whatever the time of day or day of the month.

The new Gallery is Here and you will need to register using your Anglers Net name to use it which is a very simple process, after you have registered you will need to validate it by clicking a link in an email the gallery sends you, thats it and your ready to use the new Anglers Net Photography Competitions area. You will need to register even if you only intend to vote or comment, this ensures we dont have unwanted people abusing this service.

Uploading Photo's

Here is the front page of the new gallery.



To upload a new file and enter it into the competition, click the link near the top of the page "Upload File". You will be shown the following page.



Use the "browse" buttons to locate Photo's on your machine, then click "continue". This next page lets you know that your uploads where successful.



Click "Continue" to add the files to this months competition, and you will see the following screen.



Use the dropdown list to choose the current months competition, highlighted is "February", please also give the Photo a title or name and click "Continue" again.



This final screen shows its all worked out as it should, click "Continue" and you will be taken back to the Gallery home page again.


Voting and Comments

Voting

At the end of each Calendar month, that months album will be closed for uploads and opened for voting for seven days. To vote on a photo, click directly on a thumbnail to view it large, underneath each photo you will see three buttons "Good", "Very Good" and "Excellent", choose the vote you think best applies to the Photo your looking at and click it. You will get a message saying "Thanks for Voting", you will be able to vote on every Photograph if you so wish to during these seven days.

Comments

You can comment at any time on any Photo after the end of the voting period, offer critique or feedback or ask the Photographer questions. Using this feature helps us all improve our Photography. If you dont feel you can comment, consider this. You can look at a Photograph and decide that you like of dislike it, why not write it down? Its easy to write "I love the colours on this shot" or "I dont like the angle you've taken this Photo from", just keep it honest and whatever your skill level your helping each other with the feedback.

To leave a comment again just click on a thumbnail to view the Photograph at its large size and you'll soon see how to comment.


Exif Info

Exif info is read automatically from each Photo uploaded and can be seen under all photo's in the Gallery. Exif info (for those who dont know) is information about the Photo that is stored inside a jpeg (Photo) It contains details such as when the Photo was taken, what settings the camera used it even contains what make and manufacturer of camera was used.

To ensure your photo contains this info, when you have the Photo on your computer and your editing it for competition entry, DONT use "Save" or "Save for web", "Save for email" etc...always use "Save As"


How it will work

Once a month, a results topic will be posted. ALL Photo's entered in that month will be posted in order of points received with the winner at the top. I'm hoping that by cross referencing with the comments in the gallery and your position in the listing you can guage either where you went wrong or what you did that was right, thereby improving all the time.

Remember, this is for fun but if it helps us all to improve then thats got to be a good thing. We can also learn from each others photo's too !

Rules


Any registered member of Anglers Net can enter the competition.

Entrants can only submit pictures that have been taken by themselves.

The competition will run from the first day to the last day of a calendar month, regardless of how many days that month may have.

Entrants will have a free choice in the subject (Freestyle) and presentation of their entries (Landscape/Macro etc.) , within the limits of the rules of the competition.

Entrants will be allowed to submit up to a maximum of 4 (four) pictures per monthly competition.

Once a picture is entered it will stand. Substitution or deletion is not allowed. Entrants that do so will have their complete monthly entries removed.

All photographs submitted to the competition must have been taken by the entrant.

New Photos Only. Colour or Black and White (Black and White conversions allowed).

Photo should be limited to a max dimension of 800 pixel for the longest dimension, and the file size to be less than 512KB in JPG/jpg format.

Substitution and deletion of entries is not allowed. Once a picture is entered it "Stands". Offenders risk having their whole entries for that month deleted.

EXIF and other information.

Exif information is something that is embedded into a photograph when the photo is taken, the gallery software automatically reads and displays it for you when you upload your photo.After you have resized your photo ready to upload its recommended that you use your image editing softwares "Save As" command to save it as this will maintain the exif info in the photograph, using "Save" or "Save for web" will destroy this information.

Please keep a copy of the original photograph you downloaded from your camera as a means of checking validity of entry should it be needed.

In the case of suspected rule violation the moderator will request that a full EXIF be supplied for rule-check purposes. If the information is not forthcoming the entries for that member will be deleted from the current competition. Persistent rule offenders may face a six-month entry ban.

Digital manipulations.

All entries should limit the use of digital manipulations to a minimum. It is suggested that only file conversion, level, curve, cropping and sharpening be used if necessary.

Adding or removing elements to or from the original image is NOT allowed. NO Frames.


By entering the Competition, members agree to grant anglersnet.co.uk a perpetual non-exclusive world-wide royalty-free license to modify, publish and reproduce that material for the purpose of operating, displaying, distributing and promoting anglersnet.co.uk.

However, anglersnet.co.uk will not use your materials without attributing them to you, or without your agreement.

The moderator reserves the right to append or change these rules at any time. However, sufficient notice will be given of any rule changes before they occur.

Failure to agree to, and to comply with these rules will automatically disqualify the entrant.
