Has anyone here ever caught a Topknot?

There's a picture of a guy with one in this month's Boat Fishing Monthly and, from what I can make out, it looks like someone's trod on a dab!

I found this link when I did a quick Google...

Strange looking little critter, isn't it?

Janet

Edited because I don't think Foogling is allowed...

...and I have still to catch one. mad.gif mad.gif They are a rock flatfish (they rest on the undersides of overhanging rocks) and are often seen by divers along underwater cliffs and rocky shores.

If I remember correctly, yours came to baited feathers Davy - is that right?

LOl.. I'm catching up on you.. had my 60th UK species yesterday with a Scottish Golden Grey Mullet smile.gif (jabee will be crying now smile.gif )

You were close with the Topknot, it fell to a 3" shad on a 2oz leadhead.. never figured out what it was trying to do.. eat it or mate with it smile.gif

It looks like a growth on your hand, Davy! smile.gif

I take it that due to its size and distribution, it's a fish that can really be specifically targeted?

Hi Davy

...but the old boy down south can still fish a bit. ohmy.gif

Here it is at long last - the ten-spined stickleback - the smallest British freshwater fish, and my 99th UK species. As an idea of scale, in the picture is the size 24 hook it was caught on. They do grow larger than this, but I will leave it to Dennis Flack to catch a bigger one and claim the record smile.gif . I'm happy to have found the ten-spine and already looking for a bitterling to bring up the UK hundred.

Like many of these tiddlers, it takes many hours to locate them - but only a few seconds to catch one.

Well done on the golden grey mullet - that is another I have yet to catch.
