Why can't all fishing be free and come within the Rod License fee. You pay your license and have access to all waters.
Why should the rich/syndicates be able to control areas that the Average angler can never hope to go. Views please |

Good topic there Graham. Before stating anything though I must say the only thing I know about your fisheries are from the carp mags and internet sources over the last couple years.
IMHO...it's money. Just like anything else in the world...you find something people like and want...then figure out how you can make a living at it. In the cases of the "High Cost" waters I'd compare it with our golf courses or even restaurants....the owner decides what kind of a business they want and which "income" bracket they want to market. They then do the studies and determine what the market will bear...and that's what they charge. Then you and I are left with the choice of whether we want to eat at Mcdonald's...or the top steak house in town. Whether we fish with an economy pod or top of the line pod. Don't really think there's anything we can ever do about it...just the way things always have been and probably always will be. Economics and free enterprise. On the other hand...if the government took ownership of all the waters......then a "license fee" only may work. Here in the US...I'd hate to see that. Shoot, our state governments are now trying to find a way of being able to get some of tax money they're missing due to internet sales....if there's money to be had..."people" will find a way to get it. To a lesser degree...it might also be due to man's natural instinct to "clan" or form clubs where common interests are. No where in this post did I say I "liked" or "agreed"....just gave my opinion on the "why." ![]() Anywho...I'm just a carper that fishes where he can....and sometimes spends money to fish places he really can't afford to...but, does it anyway. well its my dream when i grow up to own my own lake whic i shall take care off, but i will not charge a daily permit only a all round licence fee for a year so not every single person can fish on it. the licence would be around £5, wen i am old enough permit will probably be in ireland but at the moment all waters are free, i think

Probably because the private areas benefit from good quality management and low pressure. If everyone could fish them they would undoubtably become very average. If this country was only populated by a couple of million people the fishing could be free for everyone.

I don't mind payiny up to £5 a day on a good well stocked water that is well looked after and clean.
Most free waters look like carp with no fish lot of bags, coke cans, Tesco trolies & kidds smashing up the place Pay £5 to keep it clean or free and fish in a garbage dump What would you do i would pay ------------------ Sheffield online sea fishing club http://shefieldfish.homestead.com/ Darth |

hi all
I think it is right that we should pay to fish within reason, especially if we are going on to a farmers land because the farmers are getting screwedevery way they turn so they need as much help as they can get, but i dont believs in syndicate waters only as only the privelege get to see the best waters/fish. What hapened to sport for all. I think fishing clubs are better than syndicates as clubs are there for everyone not just those that are prepaired to pay the highest price. regards paul mc |

"free and fish in a garbage dump"
Yes, got to agree with the above quote. Sad thing is that I have found that if something is 'free', particularly fishing, the majority availing themselves of it, don't appreciate it and treat it accordingly. Sad, but true. Mac |

What's needed is a revolution - a la France. That's as close as you can come to 'free' fishing: written into the constitution. Only joking!.....

I would have to agree to a certain extent if your going to fish for free your not going to apreciate it as much as if you were to pay for it
IMHO: if i were to go to a stretch of river or even a carp lake i would rather pay £5 to sit there and not catch fish than pay nothing and be surrounded by trash and s**t because the owner can`t afford to maintain it karl ------------------ KAW |

Nice thought, free fishing, but impractical if we want decent fisheries. What do clubs provide ?.
A sense or responsibility towards the venue. The knowledge that abusing the facility could lead to an individual or the club losing the fishing does reduce littering, anti social behaviour, etc on the bank. Hopefully ensures that those who place no value on thier sport stay away. Income and reassurance for the land owner. He knows where the cash is coming from and who to speak to if there is a problem. Un restricted access for no return would result in waters being closed. Decent facilities ( in some cases). A club I belong to has portable loos at some of its waters, it need members cash to install and service these. In some ways a sense of that much talked about but rarely practiced 'unity'. Minor squabbles apart, most clubs work together for a sole purpose. I think most clubs provide good value for money, true, there are those syndicates where you pay hundreds, but most people can afford a club membership, there are plenty at £20-£40 a year. Cheers Adrian |
