My slipped disk has been a pain over the summer and I haven't done any fishing, but I got a support belt thing recently that helps a lot. So I am OK now for short trips, I think.
Last Monday I tried maggot on the hook with groundbait feeder on a swim on the canalised river which is known for roach, but just got very small fish - gudgeon, roach, perch. But I saw a couple of reasonable fish just under the surface that could have been roach. So this week at the same swim I tried float and magic bread, chucking in small balls of roach flavour groundbait. The magic bread was great - 2 years old, but still seemed OK. I mainly fished up in the water. Bingo! 6 decent roach, the best about 10oz, plus a rogue tench. It wasn't exactly bite-a-chuck, but I was only actually fishing for an hour and a quarter, and in terms of roach catches for me that was good - and something I can build on - I hope!
It was also good to find out that I can float fish Ok sitting down, necessary at the moment. When trotting I normally stand when the back allows.
