Cracking end to the season :).

Well, that's it, another seasons over but I'm glad to say I've seen it in with a couple of really good sessions. This close is going to be one of the most difficult for me I think. I've really enjoyed being away from the lakes in the past few months and although I can still fish a few bits of canal it's going to be a long 3 months.

13th March - Hamps. River

I arranged to pop down to a local stretch of river with a mate after work to see how the pike stocks were looking. To be honest it was a struggle. Half of the stretch is fast and shallow deeming it pretty unsuitable for pike so they seem to be concentrated in the deeper sections. We fished the 300 yards of deep water with only one fish of 12lb and a couple of jacks to show for it. As the light started to fade we decided to fish the first few swims again and quickly had a right result. An 18.8 to me and a 19.9 to my mate, both in the space of 2 minutes.

14th March - Another Hamps. River & River Kennet

Still high on that success my mate and I revisited the bit of Hamps. river that we fished last week. It was a struggle again to be honest. The bright conditions certainly seemed to put them down a bit so after an hour with a few trout and a low double to my mate we took a break from the lures and had a go for a chub.

Both trotting and link ledgering flake we had a handful of chub each, my biggest 4.6 and my mates 4.15, before the trout crashed the party.

I couldn't resist another quick chuck with the lures, and sure enough, on the last cast of the day I hooked a real brute of a fish at 18.13... a new pb by 3oz :).

We still had a the evening to come so after a little deliberation we hot footed it over to Berkshire to have a go on the free bit of the Kennet for a perch to round the day off. It was a real struggle but after concentrating on an area that was holding a lot of bait fish I had one take.. a 2.11 perch :).
