Home Made Depth Finder

BoldBear

I first saw this device in one of my old fishing books and I have used this several times when mapping the depths of a swim up to 15 feet deep but it relies on your rod being long enough.

You cast the rig nto the swim and let the weight sink to the bottom freely the when you tighten up the cork locks onto the line giving you an accurate depth indication.

A similar device is the lockslide float but it tends to sink out of sight on running water but the cork will ride on the surface even in running water.
