River wey/ Farnham

Recommended Posts

Just moved to Farnham, Surrey and wondered what the fishing on the River Wey is like on the north and south branches and up to Eashing Mill just outside Godalming, does anyone fly fish it regularly? is it club water? also what other fisheries are there near by.

Regards

Hi JayP

I too have recently moved to near Farnham from Witley (near Godalming).

The River Wey is split into many fishing syndicates. The Frensham Fly Fishers have probably the best beats - but they are around £700 for the first year and £200 every year thereafter. On the otherhand, there is the Farnham Angling Society - which is mostly course fishing but does have several miles of river beats for very cheap money (~£90 for the year for several miles of fishing). These beats are not the best for trout but they are stocked, have some wild brownies and are easily accessible from Farnham.

Then there's the Whitewater fly fishing club which has better trout rivers but that's a good 20-30mins north of Farnham and again cheap at ~£100 a year.

If you're wanting to wet a flee or two then give me a shout - PM me on http://flyforums.proboards30.com/index.cgi?

I'm under the same user name there too.

All the best

Bri

I think this is what you were looking for

I've been to Dockenfield, coarse fishing and am not sure that there are too many places there that it would be easy to cast a fly from. When I was there during the Summer, a chap was fly fishing, but only along a stretch 100m long.

Meon Springs is fantastic, a little nearer is Frensham Trout Fishery which is in Churt, they have several small ponds, fishing can be hard as it's also a catch and release.

Moorhen at West Meon is also reasonable, not as nice as Meon Springs but they have some big fish in there, again can be difficult due to catch and release.

The River Wey in Farnham does have a few spots where there are fish, but not sure about access, main area where I've spotted fish is along the Farnham By-Pass, use to fish it as a kid and was really surprised to see trout in there last year whilst out for a walk.
