Any suggestions, i'll need a decent amount of backing on, and would prefer one with three interchangeable spools (a sinker a floater and an intermediate), cheep is good as i assume I'll use my thumb as the drag as I do on my centrepins.

The Okuma Integrity is outstanding value; Glasgow Angling Centre do a deal with line, spare spool, backing and braided loops will probably do a deal for an additional spool and line.

I use a #9-10 size for saltwater fly fishing and have had no problems with it as long as it is washed out in freshwater after use.

Greys GRX is an ok reel apart from a couple of things:

1: The drag is prone to locking up.

2: Its got a bloody irritating clicker on the retrieve!

3: Its heavy

Do yourself a favour and buy an Okuma Airframe. You'll be able to buy one and a couple of spare spools for less than the GRX and IMHO its a far better reel. If you really want a GRX I have one with #8 Floating,Inter and Sink lines you can buy

I have to say that Ive got a couple of greys that ive had since they came out, I havnt had the drag lockup yet, ido however slacken the drags on all my reels right off when not in use, thats fixed spool, multipliers, centrepins the lot!! The okumas ok , but Ive not had a problem with the greys ,I carry a few lines (16) at the last count and yes I use them all!! so the cost of greys spools keeps things sane!!

Guest PhilB

I had an Airframe but didn't think the capacity was very good. I have just got a couple of GRX's (and several spools @ £6 each). The reel is a bit heavy but seems OK and the drag hasn't been used in anger yet but I am living in hope - tomorrow could be the day! I'll be trying your buzzer Jim.
