Float tubing

Does anyone else on here fly fish from a float tube?

Would be interested in tactics, venues or just stories.

It probably the most fun you can have in waders

Had a good session last night on a new (to me) fishery at Hado, north of Aberdeen.

Hado allows float tubing, in fact the price of your ticket includes a boat or use of one of their float tubes, so it's a great place to try it out.

It was also a chance to try the new rod that I have just finished building. Its a 10' 4wt built on a blank from Dancraft in the states. Using a Cortland 444 lazer floating line it casts like a dream.

The weather was changeable and the fish were down but I managed a couple so the new rod has been christened. All in all, great way to spend a couple of hours.

Peter

Yakkers are totally insane :P

They go to sea on a plastic plank,

I on the other hand float around a lake in the equivalent of a life raft :D

3 flotation chambers and a lifejacket make it as safe as you would want to be. It is also as comfortable as your favourite armchair. If I had a fridge and a telly installed |I would never get out. You should come up and try it. Everyone who tries it for the first time is hooked :):)

Looking forward to the Stoney trip

Took a look at Dancraft rods Dave (Oregon?) Look nice. Hope you used all british bits to finish it. Couldnt help noticing that Dancraft use british Hopkins and Holloway parts on their ready built rods.

Hi Gerry

British handle and reel seat. :)

The rings are REC "Recoil" Ultra light, made of nickel/titanium alloy. You can bend them as much as you like and they spring back (its what they make the trendy specs frames from!)

The Dan Craft blank is fabulous and tremendous value for money at less than $100.00, I'm in the middle of an 8'6" 4wt on a Loomis IMX blank, and I would say that the Dan Craft blank is equally as good. I got mine from Rocky Mountain Rods in Oregon.

I have just built a 14' Spey on a Forecast blank which has been tested by a local ghillie and he said it is a tremendous casting rod, the cost of the blank was just $65.00
