Why do??????

On the lakes that I fish. It seems that as soon as it gets cold Oct/Nov, about 75 percent of carp anglers seem to give up. Why do they do that? Is it because its harder to fish or is it to cold for them?

I keep asking myself how much of a Winter sport Carp fishing is ?

I come from a background of fishing for mixed species and as we enter the colder months I have always targeted traditional winter fish like Pike, Barbel and chub.

I got some great advice from this message board last winter and gave Carping a real crack over the cold months.

I caught but it's tough going and the urge to switch back onto the fish I know are feeding is always there...

It may well be a matter of choice of water. IF I could find a productive Winter venue I may have a differant outlook on this ?

It is tough going but that is part of the appeal. A winter carp is much more satisfying than a summer fish because of it's rarity. I fish for carp as much in winter as summer but I may go the whole winter without a fish, mind you I can sometimes go a whole summer as well .

Thats what I'm asking - if there is a water temp when the carp go off the feed and go dormant.

I fish a Cat water that will not produce a single Cat in the winter and I wondered if there was a trigger temp that had the same effect on the Carp?

Mald, I caught carp of twenty plus on consecutive days last Xmas (23 and 24th Dec) with a WT of 38 degF, both giving good runs.

I am still after them almost every day of the week, but really struggling at the moment :(
