Carp Writers

Who do you regard as a great carp fishing writer?

Jim Gibbinson's articles on here always seem to go down well and I was pleased when I first met Jim to realise that he was a really nice guy with it.

I've also had the pleasure of fishing with Mark Cunnington, although that was back in my days of drinking, so I probably didn't enjoy the occasion as much as I would do these days. I like his writing because he has a similar sense of humour to mine.

One guy who is really knowledgeable is Nick Buss. Another bloke who likes a laugh, but a seriously good angler.

The list goes on, but I don't read the specialist carp magazines very often, so my eyes are quite blinkered. Nothing against them, it's just a time thing!

Tight lines,

Elton

David,

I think for the sake of this thread, we should say ones that inspire, entertain and/or educate.

Chris Yates must come under all three headings biggrin.gif

Elton,

In no particular order;

Jim Gibbinson, Chris Yates, Rod Hutchinson, Kevin ________s, Terry Hearn, Rob Maylin

Some meet all three criteria whilst overs only fulfil one or two.

Rob.

Best technical writer: Jim Gibbinson. Very authoritive and structured in his approach.

Best desriptive writer: Chris Yates. IMO, the best such fishing writer of all time.

Best humourous writer: a toss-up between Mark Cunnington & Nick Buss. Mark's books are simply brilliant, whilst Nick is a laugh a minute to fish with and owes the fishing world a proper book.

Another vote for Chris Yates.

Jaq gave me 'Falling in Again' yesterday and I've nearly finished it already! A series of short essays - seriously good page turning stuff. I started reading it half way through pressie opening yesterday and was transported to another world. Was upto page 101 before the world of Jaq and the boys came crashing back to consciousness!!!

Full of great quotes - now where is that thread I once started?? biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

For me, Jim Gibbinson has it all.

He can and does write with extreme clarity when making a point, but whether its me or not I don't know, I can always trace a streak of mischief and humour running through his work.

Whilst Chris Yates encompasses all the facets required for a good all-round read, I prefer to read and learn from Mr.G.. His writing has a subtlety lacking in Chris Yates's books - apart from which he isn't stuck in a Dick Walker time warp.

I can't get my head around that in angling 'Traditional' means 1950's, whilst I think traditional means considerably older than that.

Still - Im prepared to read anything that reflects the positive side of the sport.

I must be in a minority then because I don't think Jim Gibbinson can write for toffee.

I find I can only take so much of the same stuff, how many times can you describe the silt/cut off lug lead arrangement.

As much as I dislike Tim Paisley and a lot of what he says and writes, some of his articles leave me pondering certain situations and in that respect he gets my vote.

Anyone who makes me think about my fishing must be doing something right.

If anyone votes for Jules, then I shall personally spam you for the rest of your/my life.
