never mind come on wind and rain. shouldnt clubs with huge fish in small lakes (assumption) install airators to safeguard their stock. the logistics of this may be difficult, but is it worth it in the long run?

All you need is a powerfull pump to fire a jet of water in the air, out towards the middle of the lake/pond.

This should put plenty of oxygen into the water.

Is a ghost carp considered to be a king carp or koi carp?

I belive they are some sort of a cross between the two but dont quote me on that.

I have caught an orangy/gold coloured ghostie at 17lb this year.

While in Mauritus a few years back we saw Koi that were monsters!

I would estimate they went up to 80lb with ease, but then again I am a fisherman!!!!!!

I agree, it really is that simple, but how would the pump be powered? the cost of laying cables to a metered power source would be horrendous. Unless there is a nice lamp post in the vicinity to tap off. :D

i have no idea how cost effective solar power would be and there is always the possibility of mindless vandalism

I have seen lake owners using petrol/diesel powered pumps.

You could use one of these on an anchored raft to stop the vandels.

true, but on a club lake there's not always someone on hand to service the pumps. what about fuel spills into the water?

I know this is going off a bit but not every water is manned permenantly and I think something like this would be difficult to maintain. commercials with airators can switch them on and off at their leisure.

sorry for starting this discussion :) my bad.

was it luck or pure genius?

Not blowing my mates trumpet for him but it is a skill that he has worked at for a couple of years,

ALL his fish were caught on the surface while he was on holiday.

He sent me the pictures but I can't get them into jpg files, so I have sent them to Nick in the north to post for me.

As for lack of oxygeon and water pumps, one of our local clubs asks the fire brigade if they would like to do an exercise/training of there water! Worth a try

Cheers
