I maintain that if you can't cast to a point you shouldn't fish to that point.

sorry but thats the biggest load of bull i have read on here......for goodness sake if you can afford something that will outfish the average caster/angler then why not...go for it! ...dont be jealous accept the fact..bait boats as said above are becoming a great tool in an anglers armoury, all it hurts is the folk that wish they had one...

fair enough common, but it's not about the money for me, and the same goes for a lot of anglers, saying that just makes it into a status symbol. i could quite easily afford a bait boat, but it's the last thing i would buy.

fair enough jeepster, but trend has it there are more sales on bait boats than ever before regardless of the NOW minority old school folk that still think its a cheating kinda way to fish..hey I am also part of the err oldish school but if a boat banked me fish then sod the pride ,,,live with the times... I am allways after a pb everytime I go on the bank nowadays and if its a boat I need to get me where a cast cannot then I promise my pride does not come into it (we all have our choices jeepster but i respect yours also)

I am not jealous... I simply believe that if I can't cast to a point under my own ability I wouldn't try to fish to that point.

A) Fish safety is my priority - a bait boat in my hands compromises that. A point I have made earlier.

B) Not using one will enable others to fish the water I can't reach. Other people benefit.

C) Not jealous at all - that's your supposition based upon not knowing me at all.

D)In an earlier post on this thread, I said 'each to his own'. I meant it. They just don't float my boat. I leave bait boats to those who must have one.

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine

Couldn't agree more Anthony :D

I don't want to do it, but it's up to the individual.

Lets face it, carbon fibre rods and fixed spool reels will probably offend someone

Dang me if I don't always love a good baitboat thread. Lively to say the least. :D:D

Sportsman - fixed spool reels used for fishing should offend nearly everyone. Great used upside down in the kitchen to whip up eggs or something but for fishing, everyone should be required to use a proper multiplier unless they have a physical disability that prevents it.

Please don't tell me you fish with an eggbeater though. I had thought better of you.

note to all: the above is meant to be a joke. I do think of fixed spool reel users as noddies who simply never learned proper casting but would never tell them so in public. :D:D

i cant see the need to cast to the horizon (or if unable use a bait boat) all my best fish came from the margins where fish move to as darkness falls and the lake quietens ,fish "food" doesent stay fixed in nature at a particular spot it makes its way to certain points depending on current or wind usually the bank and this the fish know and respond to

there seems to be the impression that bait boats a new  before factory made ones came about there was remote control boats and i used a bit of polystyrene with a sail or baloon on and before that a square of balsa the only difference was that the old ones depended on wind direction ,cant say the catch rate differed in the slightest

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

ok, Alan I am not knocking yout views, but,

on your "A" Qoute how would this compromise a fish's safety? surely there is no harm going to come to a fish with dropping your bait perfectly where you want it? or am I missing something?

Your "B" Quote you are obviously a very rare chap that cares about other anglers, to which I admire, however, I would love to get into the places he couldn't reach if it was productive..

Your "C" Quote of course I dont know you and I never meant in my post that you in particular were jealous, allthough it may have not been worded right I was talking about the fraternity in general, and It was not aimed at yourself directly I was stating a fact in general to all that call and ridicule the bait boat owners that enjoy there fishing and extra bit of kit that tongue in cheek folk secretly admire...

D Quote, well I dont think anyone must have one ...like a telly its a luxury, but IMO an effective one.. if you love angling for specimen fish even on small lakes get a boat no problem from this angler
