Float fishing is one of my all time favourite methods and is a damn sight more effective than sitting behind static rods.

 

A quick example of this is a lake I used to fish years ago. Three rods may produce one run a night per angler (if you were lucky). One day I only had a few hours to spare so went down with an avon rod and float fishined meat in likely looking spots. The result? Four fish. Over the next few months I perfected the method and was regularly catching more fish in a few hours than the rest of the lake put together caught over a weekend!!!

 

Keep it close, keep it quiet and keep on the move. You`ll be impressed for sure!

were you targetting any perticular fish, or just chuck it and see? in a pleasurable way?

 

I agree float fishing is very pleasurable, but not a method I would use if after a pb. which is what most carp anglers seek nowadays

I`d found a few patrol routes of the fish but it was tough to get a take on standard methods.

 

I`ve probably missed a few opportunities not using the method this year, its perfect for targetting specific fish.

i do alot of float fishing, but i also do some static ledgering. i would much rather float fish any day of the week. one thing i like about float fishing is it gives you something to watch and concentrate on.

seeing your float going under is much more enjoyable then waiting for your bite alarm to go off

The float goes under a lot more than an alarm sounds as well, even when you`re going for decent fish.

 

Its about catching them off guard rather than letting them do all the work

there are many anglers that think there is no skill in using buzzers, boilies, bolt rigs etc. i dont entirely agree with that, but there is more skill in using floats IMO where you have to set the hook yourself and know how to set the float up and set it to the right depth etc.

hmm, what if your target fish or/and a good head of carp feeding at say 150 yards out into 15 feet of water?? would it not then be skillfull to cast a lead to them with a pva bag attached or stringer etc and land the biggie of your dreams?

i am not saying that there is no skill at all in carp fishing. because as you say to get the accurate casting right would be skillfull indeed but some think(not including me BTW)that using rigs that hook the fish for you just isn't skillfull and it does all the work for you.that's all
