Funny you should say that wordbender because I've pretty much been thinking the same thing.

I've met my fair share of tackle tarts but the majority of carp anglers I've met have been pretty decent guys.

I've been into carping roughly the same time as you so maybe we just don't see it because we don't have older experiences to compare it to ?

I'm dreadding turning up at a lake now inhabited by right wing shaven headed heavies who are gonna nick my tackle in the night !!

i've actually been told this is cheating!! that lost me.

Ha ha, I can go one better.....I got turfed off one water by the bailiff for spoiling the other carp anglers fishing by catching half a dozen off the top, he reckoned they were serious anglers and I was just messing around catching them the easy way!!:rolleyes:

ps both Peter and the bender.....of words are right, there are still a lot of good carp anglers about unfortunately they are in a minority with a lot of waters missing out, especially public waters.

Alive without breath,

As cold as death;

Never thirsty, ever drinking,

All in mail never clinking.

I`ll just get me rod!!!

peter after reading this convo go-on i begin to see your view on carp fishing

I agree with SOME of the statements made about CERTAIN anglers fishing CERTAIN venues. However throughout this conversation the main trouble I have seen is that i feel you are stereotypical and rather pestimistic.

If you fish the right kind of water Im sure you'll find some great anglers, and Im sure that if you do find the "idiots" im sure that if you look closer you'll see that they are in the minority and that the "REAL CARP ANGLERS" are great blokes who can learn to put up with the downsides of fishing, get on with it and have a great time along the way,

however i feel that you do not see this side of fishing, which from an early age got me into this sport. My only feeling can be that you have fished the wrong kind of venues and mixed with the wrong kind of people

Also if I was you, i would ignore those "idiots" around you and carry on fishing, after all, you are there because you want to be there, so just enjoy yourself when fishing!!!!!!

I agree that I have gradually taken on a rather pessimistic attitude, mainly through feeling obliged to read the kind of puerile drivel that I wish I had never set eyes on. I intend to put this right by making sure that I ignore it completely in future.

And so say all of us.

English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havishambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary, Rawlinson End.

I think on every lake i've been to i have seen sights that shocked me.People throwing there rubbish on the floor because they havent caught! people casting over lines or into peoples swims,Unhooking carp without unhooking mats and still using barbed hooks! fecking barbaric.

But it is worse and always has been in the match scene, and i think we forget that specialist fishing has brought more care and conservation into the fishing world than any other branch of the sport (only my opinion).

The bad sides are always there, and people should be aware of this so we can keep it to the minority.

Eddie me mums bloke went to one lake in kent and everyone was fishing on the bottom, the temp was in the twenties!!

He got them feeding on the top and they were well up for it.The bailiff cum round and said he didn't have a big enuff landing net so he had to leave. It was a 42 incher!! wat a load of nutters!!

Mixers rule the world

I agree that specialist anglers do tend to care ad respect the fish that they catch, but you cannot say this about all match anglers and all specialist anglers, but at the end of the day, its the fish that we want to catch and enjoy catching, so why spoil that enjoyment for the next person??

I really admire those who think about their fishing and look at it as something other than a social event and can recount their exploits without resorting to hysteria.

Those whose living requires much session angling have, I feel, a duty to the sport. Their frequently sensationalist / macho vocabulary portrays an image that the lesser mortals and easily influenced follow, often without the samelevels of skill or etiqutte required as stewards of the environment. In other words, the very people Peter Sharpe described in his comments.

On the other hand, there are an abundance of people such as those described by Julian Grattidge

who give freely of their time and knowledge to teach others the 'right way'.

God knows I'm grateful to those who have helped me over the last 5 years, and I know I haven't always repaid that kindness properly. It doesn't alter the fact that I know the difference between right and wrong..... and boorish, loutish behaviour does the sport no favours. And that those who write up their exploits in such sensationalist terms must shoulde some of the blame.

On behalf of puerile drivelers everywhere, may I offer my sincere apologies, Peter.

And on the eighth day God created carp fishing...and he saw that it was pukka.
