rabster:

but my fishing pals are trying to persuade me to part with my hard earned by spending it on all things Shimano, so far I'm putting up a good fight.

OK, I've finally succumbed, the Shimano Sisters wore me down. I've just taken delivery of a brand spanker SHIMANO 5000 GTE B BAITRUNNER, bought off Ebay for £58.00 It feels & looks great, can't wait to use it, but will have to! Unlikely to get out fishing for at least a week. :(

Has anyone used such a reel, if so any feedback?

Cheers.

Have you considered the Dave Lane Sti brolly? It's a tad more expensive (£109.99 + PP) but really looks the mutz nutz. Had a look at one in the "flesh" @ Sheltons in Peterborough last week and they ooooouze quality!!!!. Only weigh 7.5kg and can be erected in minutes. I'm seriously considering buying one for my winter piking as they're easy to re-locate, only drawback is they are HUGE when up and might struggle in some of the tighter pegs

One good reason to do something is better than a thousand bad excuses not to.
