Gravel Pit Carp

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd ask here, as others may be wondering....

I just grabbed my wallet (honestly, I know where it's hidden) and went to buy 'Gravel Pit Carp' by Jim Gibbinson. I'd said after my last trip that I should read it and start learning.

Anyway, the Laneman site says:

quote:

Laneman Publishing has ceased trading and does not sell books. Laneman Publishing would like to thank all customers and supporters over the past few years.

Gutted. They seemed like a nice bunch when I spoke to them in the past, too :(

So, I tried Amazon, but they don't do new copies.

So, Jim, can you please tell me how we can get a copy?

Elton, Angling Publications (Carpworld etc) bought all the Laneman stock when Laneman ceased trading. The aforementioned transaction included copies of my book, Gravel Pit Carp. Seemingly, the acquisition of stock included no commitment or agreement to pay anything to authors!

So, in summary, you can obtain a copy of my book by contacting Angling Publications mail order on 01142580812, Fax: 01142582728, or Angling Publications Ltd, Reggent House, 101 Broadfield Road, Sheffield, S8 OXH

Not sure why I'm taking such a charitable view of things when I don't stand to make one solitary penny out of any sales Angling Puiblications might make! But then, why should I? I only wrote the damn thing!

Sorry about the couple of spelling mistakes there (Reggent should be Regent, Puiblications should be Publications), but the tears that welled-up in my eyes obscured my keyboard!

Oh yes, I must tell you this....

When Laneman were still trading, they were overwhelmed by the number of telephone orders they were receiving (it was the run-up to Xmas). So how do you reckon they solved the problem? Taking on extra staff, perhaps? Instituting a telephone message-leaving service, perhaps? No. Instead - you'll like this, I promise - they disconnected their telephone!

There are times when I despair, I really do!

Jim,

I'm sorry to hear that (nothing against Angling Publications - just sorry to hear that you won't get paid).

I'd actually intended to buy the book today and make a tongue-in-cheek post about how I'd help pay for your next holiday :(

I want to target some big Gravel Pit Bream next - any chance of a new book? :D

As an afterthought - do you still own the intellectual rights?

There are people who could publish it still. Perhaps a paperback version is due.

Jim Gibbinson:

Elton, Re. intellectual rights.... I hadn't considered that. Food for thought.

Definitely.

I know somebody else in a similar predicament.

I also know a few people in publishing.

Food for thought....
