I once knew a guy like that. He told his wife he'd given up fishing (to keep domestic harmony), but kept a rod, reel and a few basics so he could sneak off for the occasional hour or two while out on some pretext or other.

 

Amazingly, this poor- downtrodden guy wasn't some wimpy sycophant, but was a hard-bitten policeman!

 

We all told him to "ditch the bitch" - but she obviously had some obscure and indefinable power over him.

 

Blessed if I can think what it might have been....
