Dean,

Welcome smile.gif

The clue is in your last comment as to what's happening. The pike are hitting the 'movement', rather than choosing chick peas over a nice roach biggrin.gif

I have to agree that it is the movement that the pike are going for, but it also takes a lot of LUCK.

During one session that I fished with develish_dean the only fish that was netted was a pike that he caught with a single red maggot!

The pike took the maggot as he was reeling in to recast.

Talk about being in the right place at the right time

Nothing as lucky as luck itself

I have had pike on boilies - occaisionally when static pop ups. My mate has had them take a bare hook when leading about. As others mentioned they are just mistaking the movement for the flash of fish.

hiya everyone, I`ve never had one take a boillie but have had one attack a marker float that had been in the same spot ,stationary for over an hour. That surprised me a bit.

Most fish will take deadbaits, especially carp. In fact carp are such a pest when deadbaiting for perch that I have often to use large baits to avoid them. I've had around 100 carp on deadbaits up to 4" long. They particular like whitebait which are the fry of sprats and herrings.

I consider pike on carp baits my 'Sympathy fish', during the summer i had a young jack on 10mm Trout pellet boilie and last week i had two, one of about 3.5 and one of 3lb, on lobworm fishing for perch. Both days i had a total blank for carp.
