I want a very sensortive ledger rod

This greatly depends on your budget, recommendations will vary greatly if you have £50 or £100 to spend.

One thing to remember with ledger rods is that they are all sensitive if you have a fine tip in them. This means that a feeder rod capable of chucking 4oz of lead can be very sensitive if you fit a 1oz test curve tip, on the other hand a bomb rod which will only cast 1oz is not sensitive if you fit a 4oz test curve tip.

My advice would be to get a rod which is classed as a 'medium' feeder rod and a good selection of quivertips to fit it. this will prove to be far more versatile than a light ledger rod as a decent medium feeder rod can be used for close in work with a light link ledger or cast feeders up to a couple of ounces 60-70 yards with out too much of a problem. If you let me know how much you have to spend I will try to give you some better ideas, also what you are going to fish for and where.

Sorry about the delay in replying to this, but I've done a bit of hunting for you.

There are quite a few shops doing the Daiwa Harrier Z range in the £70-80 range, the best bet seems to be the HRZL130SWQ model which is a 13foot medium feeder rod retailing at about £100 but you should be able to get it for less than £80.

If you could stretch to another tenner ie £90 you should try and get a Team Daiwa 11-13SWQ they are fantastic rods. Nathans Tackle in Derby are doing them for £89.99 and they should be £150, you will find their advert in Match Fishing or Match Angling Plus.

I have no doubt that there are lots of other rods around in the same price range but these are the best 2 I have come across.

I have a couple of the Leeda `Twin-Tip Concept` rods. The first one I bought is the Specialist, which is an Avon-type rod, and the second one is the Duo-Combo Barbel rod.

Both come with a butt section and two tops, one is a quiver-tip (built-in) and the other is a `float` top. In practice, I tend to use the quiver tops if fishing feeder and maggot/caster/corn size baits, and the `float` tops if using larger baits such as chunks of meat or paste, etc..

Prices for these rods do vary from supplier to supplier - but retail is usually quoted as £90:00 for the butt and one top, plus another £40:00 for the second top. However, I got the Specialist for £60:00, and the Barbel Duo for £65:00 - both came with both tops. I know the Barbel Duo is no longer available at the price I paid, but I have seen them on this site (!!) at £75:00 (I think). They might be suitable for you, as I have found the rod to be more sensitive than you would think for a Barbel stick.

I'd certainly endorse Leeda rods as being good value and also I've found that Masterline are excellent value.

I've had a scout round a few site and for £80 there's quite a selection open to you. You can still get quite a decent rod for £50 so you could even buy a reel to go with it for £80!

It really depends however on what you want to use it for. The Avon type rods are more intended for rivers than stillwaters but are adaptable with having the choice of top sections (quiver or float). If you're predominately a stillwater or canal angler however then I think you'd be better off with a 'proper' quiver rod that comes with a choice to 2 or 3 different weight tips. Have a hunt round some of the tackle sites to see what's available then once you've decided try ringing round the bigger dealers for a price.

Good sites to try :

Bennetts Of Sheffield - http://www.bosfish.co.uk

Very good for seeing what's available because they carry a lot of stock, but not the best prices perhaps.

Nimpopo - www.nimpopo.co.uk

Very good prices.

Fishing Warehouse - http://www.fishingwarehouse.co.uk

Not been up long so not bought from them yet but seem reasonable.

Good Luck

Aero,I can do you a LEEDA Generation 11'6" Multi Tip Feeder rod for £35+ p+p (unless Jonty knows of anyone cheaper!only joking Jonty!) This is quite a nice rod and is suitable for most medium applications. It has two push in tips both are very sensitive. It would possibly be too light for heavy Barbell though. As a guide to the quality I think they used to retail at about £75? I own some of the MAP feeder rods also from LEEDA looking at these and the generation rods they look the same other than the graphics!these retailed for a lot more.

By the way the rod is unused. If your interested let me know.
