Just in case anyone out there is undecided about where to go at the weekend, the Middle Severn has switched on big styles and the barbel are feeding well.

The Middle is generally thought of as being Ironbridge down to Bewdley but thats open to discussion!!

I`ve been on Ironbridge and near Hampton Loade and have had a field day, theres plenty moving.

do you happen to know if the barbel fishing is good at bridgnorth. i ask as me and a few friends are thinking of night fishing it in our half term.

Make sure night fishing is allowed. On a lot of water around Bridgnorth its not.

The barbel fishing can be good at Bridgnorth but its not an area I fish very much. It gets hammered and the litter is disgusting so I avoid it.

 

Nightfishing on the `day ticket` is allowed. The tickets are available from the tackle shop near the main bridge, I think you can pay on the bank so if you`re nighting then I personally would let them come and get the money off me. Left bank downstream from the bowling green island down to the bypass bridge is the main area folks fish, good barbel have been coming out from here for years. I`m not sure what the methods are at the mo, as I said its been a few years since I fished there, but pellet feeder will work anywhere so thats a good starting point. Only feed via the feeder though, no loose feed, you want to concentrate the fish on a tight line.

 

You`re not looking for fast water this time of year, try to find quiet spots in the flow. Steady glides with a good crease are banker swims for me at the mo, a deviation of the bank will give a good nearside feature to fish to (can`t beat an underarm lob to keep things accurate!!). Be prepared to wait for them though, some days they need a bit of persuasion to have a munch. The last hour before dark is proving the killer time so if you`re fishing for 3.30 then theres every chance of picking up a fish or two before full dark.

I'm not sure who's got the fishing rights on the boat house side of that stretch at Ironbridge anymore, but there's some bloody big fish to be had. It may be day ticket.

I'm a member of the Ironbridge Power Station stretch & once bagged a brace a few years back - both 10lb a piece! I left with a smile on my face And the winter roach through Ironbridge is some of the best roach sport on the Seven imo.

Bish, I`ve fished the pump house stretch just upstream and agree that it can be good up there.

 

The roach.......I`m with you on that.Apart from a couple of spots a few miles down then Ironbridge has to be some of the best roach sport in the country let alone the Severn!!

Hows it been with the redfins up your way recently? I`m hoping to get up there in the quest for a 2 pretty soon.

Not arf! Only had a couple of winter sessions down there this year mate as i'm living in Anglia now. You can't fail to bag up Best ever redfin bag was just under 40lb. Going back about 5/6 years that was. It's all about catching the river right. Too much on & you can forget it. I only lived 3 miles away so could just pop down to see how it was. Hit 'n miss, but by christ when you catch it right!

Yeah, know where you`re coming from. Theres a spot at Arley that on its day can chuck pound plus roach at you like they`re going out of fashion. Catch it on the wrong day though and its minnowville!

 

Someone said the pegs just up from the main bridge were a spot to consider or is that a bit specific in case theres any lurkers out there?
