old beech rod

Recommended Posts

been sorting out my sea fishing tackle today from the loft and discovered an

ABU Atlantic 484 beachcaster what was the old mans is this worth owt

What condition? Is it the full cork handled version or the split duplon grip? Is it the brown fibreglass version (484) or the carbon (484C) model?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Ah the older version. If in really good condition collecters will pay up to £50 but as the condition drops so does the price.

The later (split duplon grip) models are still a very good long range cod rod.a lot of top casters still say that untill you can do 200m with a 484 you dont need a more specialist rod! A rod well ahead of its time. Once again dependant on condition these still go for £40+ ish. The rarer 484C and ultimate 484CS (same as 484C but with a speed lock reel seat) fetch big money the CS sometimes over £150.

Anyway back to yours. You could try selling it but like I said condition is important. If you havnt got a really good beach rod then I would sugest stripping the cork (its a duraluminium butt underneath) and replacing it with shrink tubing and a butt cap.Getting the metal reel seat off can be nigh on impossible unfortunately (but worth trying) so you would have to live with that and its rather long reach.Strip of the Spinflex rings if damaged and put some Fuji BNHG's on with a Diamite tip ring and youve a first rate rod. Certainly a better rod than you could buy with the money you would get for it.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

If you are selling it I might be interested. mainly for sentimental reasons as I stupidly sold mine about 25 years ago when I gave up fishing, and want to get into it again.

they are nice rods (got a few abu's about) but a little short at a fraction over 11ft for distance casting

i like the spinning rods they are almost unbreakable if a little old fashioned ,i use a 403 often

If you have a 484c and be happy to part with it for some cash, I'd be definitely interested...
