News Release From The Angling Trust

That's strange. In the Summer issue of the Angling Trust Newscast, which hit my door mat just last week, it says;

"The first question any politician or decision maker asks is "how many people do you represent?" With Hundreds joining every week, and the membership over 10,000 (and expected to hit 20,000 by the end of 2009, we will, for the first time, be able to reply that tens, or even hundreds of thousands of anglers have given the Angling Trust a mandate to speak for them."

Which is a bit different to what they are saying here;

"The Angling Trust has announced a number of cuts to its central operations in Nottingham and Leominster. Despite widespread publicity and distribution of more than half a million membership leaflets, the level of recruitment has to date, fallen below expectations. This consequential shortfall in revenue, along with higher than expected costs, has created a situation which was threatening the viability of the Trust. Of 4 million anglers less than 1% have joined the Trust – many more were expected to have signed up and, despite thousands of further members of former organisations due to renew in the remaining months of the year, the Board was not confident the organisation could continue to provide sufficient service to members without making savings."

Obviously, something isn't right here. One minute everything is looking rosy, the next minute they are in trouble. How can things change so drastically within the space a week?

The comments in the summer Newscast were probably just marketing hype. Perhaps a last gasp attempt to get people to join by implying that non-members are in the minority.

Bad luck with the timing of the launch and the current economic climate. I bet the bank's aren't being too sympathetic!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Possibly because it takes a bit longer than a week to commission, write, edit, design and print a magazine, particularly if you're not actually a magazine publisher.

What, deliberately misleading people? Surely not.

You're not trying to imply that marketing and associated advertising is absolutely honest are you? B)

Dear dear, sounds like it's gonna be the rsa's fault for not joining united, naughty boys and girls. Slap hands all round. :D

The firm has only been going for half a year, anything of significance that the rsa have really won from the powers to be yet?

All i feel has happend is a rear guard action to try and get rid of the greenies and the men in suits demands. What has actually been won?

The rsa collectively have lessend the damage re 47 and licences at the mo, with some help from united. :)

Unfortunatly during this recession that this government is helping to prolong, :whistling: a lot of the charter boats, even the good ones are finding it hard to keep full crews, anyone else noticed that.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Hello Steve

I think the problem is that somebody told them that there are 4 million anglers.

I fish to live and live to fish.
